Introduction to Spatial Statistics Using R and ArcGIS

In this two day class you’ll learn how to use perform spatial statistical analysis using ArcGIS Desktop and R. In the first half of the course we’ll explore the spatial statistics tools found in ArcGIS Desktop including how to measure geographic distributions and map clusters. Using ArcGIS Desktop geographic distribution tools you’ll learn how to calculate the central feature, determine directional distribution, linear directional mean, mean and median center, and standard distance. Cluster analysis will include generating hot spots, cluster and outlier analysis, grouping analysis, and similarity search. In the second half of the course you’ll learn how to connect R to ArcGIS Desktop to create custom R spatial tools that integrate additional spatial statistical analysis including autocorrelation and autoregression.

Withdrawal from a course after registration has been submitted takes place on occasion. Students must submit written notice no later than 10 business days prior to the first day of the scheduled session. Email is an acceptable form of written communication. The course fee will be refunded, minus a $60 processing fee.


Refunds cannot be made for withdrawals initiated within 10 days of the first day of the scheduled class. However, the registration and payment may be honored for the same class topic held at a future date within the same fiscal year (09/01 - 08/31).

Refunds will not be granted for participant no-shows.


Student substitutions are allowed with 3-days written notice prior to the start of the course.
